Quite a large tree hopper caught my eye, very distinctive! My identifying book says its 6mm long but I reckon he was bigger than that.

Very good shot, the leaf tips at the top left can be easily cropped out, they are a bir eye-catching IMHO but not a big deal.:)

can they? they are touching the subject though. I could have clone stamped them out i suppose.

Yes you can even if they touch to the subject. Some magnified work needed but you can do it perfectly by using the clone stamp tool like you said.
