Ive just come back from my local photo shop after letting them know that their preconcieved idea that putting extension tubes on a macro lens was overkill... is wrong! In the nicest possible way ofcourse.
Infact, right now im wondering what will happen if I stick another 65mm on the end!
I've finally got my hands on a macro lens - Sigma 105mm 1:2.8 which I bought from these guys and it is a joy to use.
The tubes do make then image darker but it is still perfectly light enough when you are out in the sunlight.
The only major disadvantage i have found is that the dept of field becomes razor thin, so you end up with a lens which is *too* powerful to use on large insects like the dragonfly I have been photographing. It is more suited to photographing groups of tiny insects like aphids, no doubt you have seen those types of pictures before...
Anyway im gonna have fun with this baby
Oh, all pictures with the new 50 px border (as opposed to the 100 px borders) are taken with the Sigma.
